James Albert Buckley, Jr., age 90, of Walpole passed peacefully at home on May 31 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Edna (Buckman) Buckley for the past 72 years.
Born in Norfolk, July 13, 1923, the son of the late James A. Buckley and Catherine M. (O’Day) Buckley, Mr. Buckley was raised in Norfolk and had lived in Walpole for the past 73 years.
Mr. Buckley served his country during World War II while enlisted in the Navy.
He then worked for many years and electrician, and retired after working for many years in the security department of the Foxboro Company.
Jim was a member of the Walpole Knights of Columbus, the DAV, and a former member of the Norwood Elks and a member of the Canal Sportsman’s Club.
Jim enjoyed conversing with fellow amateur radio operators via his call sign, N1LMT. He also enjoyed his trips to Bourne where he watched the ships pass by and to fish the canal.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, James A. Buckley III and his wife Martha of Walpole, Louise Taylor of King, North Carolina, Maree Karasevich of Merritt Island, Florida, Edward J. Buckley Sr. and his wife Mary of Canton, Carolann Montgomery and her husband Douglas of Walpole, Richard Buckley and his wife Saida of Walpole. He was the father of the late Robert Buckley.
He was the brother of the late Charles Buckley and Mary Allaire.
He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 4 in the Ginley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 892 Main Street in Walpole at 10:00.
Burial will be in Plains Cemetery, West Walpole.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-8.
