John Marvelle, 85

John Marvelle, age 85, of Mansfield passed away in the presence of his loving family, following a brief illness, on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Hazel G. (Brown) Marvelle to whom he was wed on January 29, 1949.
Born in Wareham, MA on June 27, 1928, he was a dear son of the late Clyde and Geraldine (Fountain) Marvelle. He grew up and was educated in Wareham and Mansfield.
John proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII. Upon being honorably discharged from duty, he continued his education and graduated from the Williams Business School in Brockton.
A resident of Mansfield for most of his life, Mr. Marvelle was a retired Letter Carrier having worked at the Mansfield Post office for 30 years prior to retiring. John was a member of the Mansfield VFW, the Mansfield American Legion, and the Mansfield Elks.
John’s favorite day of the week was Friday and especially Friday evening meals shared with three generations of his adoring family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and the summer months in Dennisport.
In addition to his loving wife of 65 years, he is survived by his devoted children; John D. Marvelle and his wife Elise of Norton, Kevin J. Marvelle and his wife Naomi of Maryland, Diane M. Vincent and her husband Walter of Texas, Jeffrey A. Marvelle and his wife Kathy of New Hampshire, Pamela J. Medeiros and her husband Victor of Foxboro and Lisa A. Flynn and her husband Brian of Attleboro. He was the dear brother of Geraldine Blanchette of Virginia, Edward Marvelle of Florida and the late Ralph, Richard, Clyde, Howard and Sheldon Marvelle. He is also survived by his cherished 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Jason Marvelle.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, June 2nd from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
A service in celebration of John’s life will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours at 7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
