Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Edith M. (Palazzesi) Cavicchioli, 92, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life from her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home in West Springfield on March 14, 1922, a beloved daughter of the late Antonio and Eunice (Cesteri) Palazzesi. She was raised on Hungry Hill in Springfield, attended the High School of Commerce and was a lifelong resident of Springfield. Edith was employed for over 20 years as a waitress at the former Wishing Well Restaurant on Hancock Street in the Six Corners section of Springfield. She was a member of the Carew Street Branch of the Springfield Golden Age Club and a member of LeStelle d’Italia Women’s Club at the Italian Cultural Center in Springfield. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Active in her faith, she was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Our Lady of Hope Church, and currently a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas V. Cavicchioli who was Called Home on August 1, 1995. They were married on July 27, 1940 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield and were blessed with 55 years of happiness together. She leaves her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Robert T. Cavicchioli and his wife, Carol; her two cherished grandchildren, Gina M. Pericolosi and her husband, Eric, and Robert A. Cavicchioli, all of Springfield; her two cherished great-grandsons whom she adored, Rocco and Michael Pericolosi; her dear sisters, Barbara Dobiecki and Gloria McCarthy and her husband, Raymond, all of Springfield; her brother, Tony Palazzesi and his wife, Ginny, of Somers, CT; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Cavicchioli and Palazzesi families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear sisters, Ann Marie Palazzesi and Dora Agrapides. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, May 31, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Thomas Cemetery, Kings Highway, West Springfield, MA 01089.
