GROVELAND: Richard J. Brennan, 80, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Patricia (Hamm) Brennan with whom he shared fifty-six years of marriage.
Born in Boston on October 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Blais) Brennan. He was a graduate of Boston Cathedral High School.
Richard proudly served as Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He was employed as a toll auditor for thirty-eight years at the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. He retired in 1996 and had never missed a day of work. He was a former member of the OPEIU Local 6 and the AFLCIO for many years.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he relished the time he spent with his family. Richard enjoyed summers on Cape Cod, taking trips with his family to Florida and the many family gatherings they shared throughout the years. He will be forever in the hearts of his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Kathleen Kennedy and her husband, Charles of Newton, NH, Patricia MacMillan and her husband, Richard of West Hopkinton, NH and Richard J. Brennan, Jr. and his wife, Andrea of Boston; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two brothers, James Brennan and his wife, Virginia of Fullerton, CA and Arthur Brennan of Hull; a sister, Marie Higgins of Seabrook, NH; a cousin, Sister Ann Mildred Brennan, SND of Dorchester and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Harry Brennan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday in St. Patrick’s Church, 114 Center Street in Groveland at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 990 LaGrange Street, West Roxbury at 2:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Richard’s memory to Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, NY, NY 10018.
