
SPRINGFIELD – Donald J. Pilon, 85, of the Glenwood section of Springfield,was Called Safely Home on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2014. He was born in Springfield on February 6, 1929, a beloved son of the late Oliver J. and Antoinette (Germaine) Pilon. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. Donald was a well-known mason and stone contractor in Springfield and was the longtime owner of D. J. P. Masonry and later Tri-County Masonry. He was involved in many local building projects in the area including the Showcase Cinemas 1 thru 12, several of the BP Gas Stations, the Coca Cola Plant in Northampton and several of the local church restoration projects. Donald was an avid skier who enjoyed skiing in New England. He most often could be found skiing many double black diamond slopes, especially at the Solitude Ski Resort in Utah. He was a communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and currently a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. He also attended many retreats at the former Passionist Retreat Center in West Springfield. He leaves his beloved wife, Sandra Pilon; his four children, Michelle M. Pilon of Georgia, Danielle M. Pilon of Reston, VA, Claudine R. Bodin and her husband, Ethan, of Middlesex, VT and David J. Pilon of Groveland, FL; his stepdaughter, Dr. Jennifer Mourafetis and her husband, Captain William Mourafetis, of Hallandale, FL; his five grandchildren, Roham J. Ghashghai, Eva Bodin, Charlotte Bodin, Ashley Pilon and David Pilon; his step-grandchildren, US Navy Ensign Michael Mourafetis and Christine Mourafetis; his two sisters, Jeannette Jalbert of Chicopee and Doris Perrault of Rhode Island; his brother, Leo Pilon of Florida; and his many dear nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife, Jeannine R. (Peloquin) Pilon who was Called Home on December 12, 1991; his daughter-in-law, Lynn A. Pilon who was Called Home on October 1, 1999; his brother, Edward Pilon; and his sister, Theresa Labonte. His funeral and burial will be held at the convenience of his family.
