Obituary

WEIRS BEACH – Annette B. Poirier, 81, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Lakes Region General Hospital with her loving family at her side.
She was born on November 17, 1932, the daughter of Adelard and Grace (Fontereau) Pelletier. Annette was a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, where she grew up and married her husband, Bill. They bought Abakee Cottages, near Weirs Beach, in 1965. Annette had a special way of making people feel loved and heard. She touched many lives over the years at Abakee: for three generations, during Annette’s tenure, families returned to celebrate summer vacations at Abakee. Children and families loved her because she made them feel so special.
Annette was the author of the novel Finding Charlie; a founding member and President of the Weirs Action Committee; and volunteered for Community Health & Hospice. She was a former active communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church in Lakeport and a communicant of St. Andre Bessette Parish in Laconia.
From running an organization and a cottage colony, to knitting, to the old craft of “tatting”, to writing a novel, Annette had the ability to master everything she started. Annette loved to spend time with family members and close friends shopping for antiques and dolls. She was a wonderful cook and loved to feed her family, the more the merrier!
Annette and her husband Bill vacationed in Vero Beach, FL where they relaxed and looked forward to being back at Abakee every spring.
She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, William E. Poirier of Weirs Beach, her son William A. Poirier and his wife Jacqueline of Gilford, her daughter Denise Marie Poirier of Weirs Beach, one brother, Normand Pelletier of Attleboro, Mass, three grandchildren and five nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Florence Birch.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at St. Andre Bessette Parish – Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia.
In addition of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Smile Train. The organization that Annette felt very strongly about and all proceeds from her novel Finding Charlie were donated. You can donate online at www.smiletrain.com. All proceeds from her novel sales will continue to be donated in her honor.
