WAYLAND: Helen F. (Mantell) Berry, 96, died peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2014 following a period of failing health.
She was born in Milford on August 11, 1917 the daughter of the late Harry Mantell and Henrietta (Sullivan) Mantell.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late James R. Berry who died on May 29, 1990.
She was the devoted mother of Robert H. Berry and his wife Mary of Holliston; Dennis J. Berry and his wife Joanne of Wayland and Pat Cunningham and her husband Robert of San Mateo, CA. She was the sister of Jackie Fahey of Hopkinton; Jean Maguire of Holliston and the late Harry Mantell. Also survived by six grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Helen has been a resident of Wayland for the past 63 years and previously resided in Springfield. Her formative years were spent in Holliston and she was a graduate of Holliston High School. For over 18 years, Helen was the school health aide for the Town of Wayland at Wayland High School before retiring. She was an active communicant of St. Zepherin’s Church and a member of the Women’s Club and volunteered for many of the church fairs. Helen also served the Town of Wayland as an election worker for Precinct Two for over 20 years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 9:45 am followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Good Shepherd Parish at Saint Zepherin’s Church, 99 Main Street (Rte 27), Wayland.
Interment to follow in the Berry family lot in St. Zepherin’s Cemetery, Bent Avenue, Wayland.
