George Patras, 79 of Medford died Monday after a long illness in the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Medford.
Born in Danversport, MA, he was the son of the late Katina (Tripousis) and Constantine Patras. Mr. Patras was a Foreman, employed by the former Crosby, Valve, Gage Machine Shop in Wrentham for 36 years and retired in 1983. George was a Corporal in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1943 to 1946. He served with the 369th Field Artillery, 98th Division in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He also participated in the occupation of Japan and was at Hiroshima. Mr. Patras was honored by Boston College as their “Number 1 Fan” for their Football and Basketball teams.
Beloved husband of Eugenia (Loutraris)Patras. Devoted father of Kathy Carvalho and her husband John of Medford. Brother of Charles Patras and his wife Demi, Olympia Panagiotakopoulos and her husband Vasilios all of Medford, Esther Kappos and her husband John of No. Billerica. Brother in law of John Loutraris and his wife Maria of Medford. Godfather of Dianna Carbone and Keriann Loutraris. Uncle of Paul, Joanne, Michael, Charles, Claire, and Karen. Great uncle of Marie. Special friend of Michael J. Coyne of Boston College.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. MEDFORD Friday at 10 AM followed by a funeral service at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 29 Central Street, Somerville Friday at 11 AM.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours Thursday 5 thru 9.
Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
