MAHONEY, Francis X., Sr.- Of Malden, formerly of Chelsea, May 17th. Devoted husband for 67 years of Rita (Matthews). Beloved father of Francis X. Mahoney, Jr. and hs wife Jeanne of Springvale, Maine, Thomas J. Mahoney and his wife Patricia of Malden and John L. Mahoney and his wife Karen of Kennesaw, Georgia. Brother of the late John J. Mahoney, Jr. and Ellen and Alice Mahoney. Cherished grandfather of Francis X., III, Brendan, Thomas J, Jr., MaryKate, Brian and John L., Jr. Also lovingly survived by his great granddaughter Rosalin Mahoney as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and friends anr kindly invited to attend a Funeral from the Carroll Funeral Home, 721 Salem Street, (Maplewood Square) MALDEN on Friday, May 23rd at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, 770 Salem Street, Malden at 10 o'clock. Visiting Hours in the Carroll Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Late United States World War II Army Veteran, Graduate of Malden Catholic '37, Boston College '42 and long time Eduacator in the Chelsea Public School System. Born in Chelsea and a resident there until moving to Malden 12 years ago, Francis at 95 years of age, passed away at his home Saturday afternoon. While in Chelsea he attended Our Lady of Grace Church were he instructed many of their CCD classes and was the CYO Coach of the softball team which he coached to the New England Championship in 1956. A math teacher at the Carter School and Chelsea High Shool, he was a member of the Chelsea Teachers Union and was inducted into the Chelsea High School Hall of Fame as a Coach.
