Napoleon J. Santos, 92, of New Bedford died Saturday May 17, 2014 at the Oaks Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Maria M. (Mendes) Santos.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and Candida (Anacleto) Santos, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Santos was formerly employed as a construction worker for the Laborers Union, Local 385.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Merchant Marine Service and later worked at the Newport Torpedo Station.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Luke's Hospital Emergency Room and PCU2 as well as the entire staff of the Oaks Nursing Center and New England Hospice for their many acts of kindness and understanding given to their father and grandfather throughout the past few years.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana M. Santos of New Bedford; his son, Robert A. Santos and his wife Christine of Peachtree City, GA; his granddaughter, Brooke D. Santos of Atlanta, GA; his sisters-in-law, Mary Santos of Fairhaven and Judith DeSena of New Bedford; and his Godchild, C. Neil Lobo and his wife Diane of Taunton.
He was the brother of the late Helen Fonseca, Adelina Fonseca, and George Santos.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford prior the the Mass.
