Arthur A. Cole, Sr., 89, of New Bedford died Monday November 8, 2004 at Sacred Heart Home after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Helen C. (Turgeon) Cole; they had been married for 58 years.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Ray and Mary (Avila) Cole. Mr. Cole and his sister, the late Ada (Cole) Annelli were raised from childhood by their uncle and aunt, the late Manuel F. and Nettie G. Avila of Adamsville, R.I.
He was educated at the Hackley School in Tarrytown, New York and Brown University. He was an Army veteran who served in World War II.
Mr. Cole lived in New Bedford and worked in corporate sales. He retired to Tucson, Arizona in 1978 with his wife. They both returned to this area in August 2000.
In his retirement, he was an avid reader, gardener, and photographer. He and his wife traveled extensively and enjoyed many friendships.
Survivors include two sons, Arthur A. Cole, Jr. and his wife Miriam of New Bedford, and William A. Cole of Tucson; a daughter, Catherine M. Kralicky of Tiverton, R.I.; four grandchildren, Ethan M. Cole and his wife, Brandi of Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, Elizabeth M. Cole of Florence, Italy, Joseph S. Kralicky, Jr. and James A. Kralicky; several great-grandchildren, and dear friends.
His Graveside Service will be held on Monday November 15, 2004 at 11 AM in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to one's favorite charity.
