John O. Szlosek, age 55, was called peacefully Home on May 12, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Nov. 29, 1958, in Springfield, the son of the late Frederick and Helen (Deroche) Szlosek. John recently enjoyed working as a mail carrier for ServiceNet in Northampton where he was known for always bringing a smile along with the mail. Previously he enjoyed working in their FIT Together fitness center in Hadley. John touched the hearts of all who entered his life with his loving gentle soul and contagious smile. He loved and was loved dearly by his care providers, housemates and family. He especially enjoyed the times he spent bowling, going to dances and wrestling events, hitting golf balls and spending time with his sister Teri and her husband Gene. He leaves his brother Fred Szlosek Jr., and his wife Elaine of Ludlow; 4 sisters Genny Santos and her husband Victor of Palmer, Bonnie Atanian and her husband Heidi of Springfield, Rose Marie Szlosek of Hadley and Teri Szlosek and her husband Gene Holcomb of Springfield. He also leaves many nieces and nephews as well as his extended family of housemates and caring staff. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 in St Elizabeth Parish in St John the Baptist Church, Ludlow, MA at 11 a.m. followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
