Obituary

Mary E. (Linehan) Barnat, 102, of Methuen passed away Monday May 12th at Colonial Heights Care and Rehabilitation in Lawrence with loving family at her side. She was born in Lawrence on December 1, 1911, daughter of Irish immigrants Bridget (Kiley) and James Linehan. A life long Methuen resident, Mary was educated in Lawrence parochial schools but at a very young age had to devote herself to running the household and raising younger siblings.

Her passions in life included family gatherings, tea parties, playing cards (especially 45's), cooking, sewing, dancing, and spending summertimes at Cobbetts Pond. She was also a past member of Catholic Daughters of America.



Mary was predeceased by her loving husband John J. Barnat.


Mary is survived by her son Daniel Barnat and his life partner Thomas Monteleone of Windham NH and Waltham MA, a son Robert Barnat of Ashland MA, a daughter Barbara DeFruscio and her husband Anthony of Salem NH, a sister Elizabeth Jameson of Feeding Hills MA, a brother Edward Linehan and his wife Pauline of Port Orange FL, grandchildren Kathy Gugliotta, Patricia Marquette, Sandra Dykens, David DeFruscio, John Barnat, 14 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchilden, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.




Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Sunday May 18th from 3-7 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday May 19th at 11 AM at St Monica's Church in Methuen with burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence. Memorial contributions in Mary's honor may be made to Merrimack Valley Nutrition Project 57 River Road Andover MA.
