TEWKSBURY - Ruth M. “Chickie” (Bruce) Casey, age 84, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, May 13, at Lowell General Hospital’s Saints Campus, with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife for 53 years of Thomas J. Casey, who died on December 23, 2003.
She was born in Somerville on September 9, 1929, the daughter of the late Earl and Ida (Grey) Bruce. She was raised in Somerville, but had resided in Tewksbury for the past sixty four years.
Mrs. Casey was an active member of the St. William’s Parish community, a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, and was an active supporter of the Knights of Columbus when her husband was Grand Knight of the Tewksbury Council.
“Chickie” will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her faith, her witty sense of humor always making people laugh.
She is survived by five children, Pamela J. and her husband Robert Sullivan of Lowell, Thomas E. Casey and his wife Kathleen (Doherty) of Tewksbury, Laura A. Casey-Patterson of Tewksbury, Carol J. Conwell and her husband Michael of No. Andover, and June L. Patterson and her husband Scott of Tewksbury; eleven grandchildren, Justin and his wife Jaime Sullivan, and Amy Sullivan, Cristin Casey-Trowbridge and her husband James Trowbridge, and Bridget Casey, Megan Brackett-Goodale and her husband Ross Goodale, and Michael Patterson, Troy Conwell, and Casey Conwell, Callina Patterson, Brooke Patterson, and Scott Patterson; four great grandchildren, Thomas, Sam, Wesley, and Olivia; a sister-in-law, Virginia Bruce of Billerica, who was the wife of her brother, the late Kenneth Bruce; her lifelong friend Kay Nickerson of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, May 17, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, No. Tewksbury. Memorials to Alzheimer’s Foundation of MA, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472 visit www.alz.org, will be appreciated.
