NORTHBOROUGH; Frances A. “FRAN” (Mele) Barker, 80, died comfortably on Friday, May 9, 20l4 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Waltham on March 22, l934 the daughter of the late Corato and Rose (Trovato) Mele.
Fran is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Arthur C Barker of Northborough formerly of Natick. Devoted mother of Michael Barker of Natick; Karen Pantazis and her husband William of Northborough; Lynne Barker of Natick; Donna Berlo and her husband Robert of Barre; Diane Barker of Natick and Deborah Barker of Niceville, FL Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Fran is also survived by her closest and dearest friend Freida Clifford of Natick. She was the sister of the late Anna Vellante and Rose Barlow.
Fran has resided in Natick for over 56 years before moving to Northborough a year or so ago to be closer to her family. She spent her formative years in Waltham and was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Waltham. For over 30 years Fran was the Finance and Billing Clerk in the Finance Office at the former Leonard Morse Hospital-MetroWest Medical Center in Natick retiring in 1996.
Her family was the center of her life and she was devoted and loved the time spent with them especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fran enjoyed traveling to Maine and going to “Brown’s” and to Booth Bay Harbor with “The Girls” as well as their shopping adventures and Saturday luncheons. She will be greatly missed by all of those that loved her.
Visitations will be held on WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 20l4 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the John C Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (OFF ROUTE 30) WAYLAND.
Her Mass of Christian Burail will be held on THURSDAY, MAY 15, 20l4 at 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd Parish at Saint Zepherin’s Church, 99 Main Street, (ROUTE 27) WAYLAND.
Interment will follow in the BARKER family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
In lieu of flowers her family suggests that memorial gifts in Fran’s memory may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen Street, 2nd Floor, Framingham, MA 0170l.
