Jerry Wayne Stinson, Sr., 70, of Tifton died Friday, May 9, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014, at Tift Avenue Church of God. Rev. Joseph L. Crumley and Rev. Dan McEachin will officiate with burial to follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. Ronnie Lawson, Troy Goff, Jerry Crumley, Henry Crumley, Bobby Weldon, David Sparks and Billy Spicer will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Adult Sunday school class at Tift Avenue Church of God. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 11, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Stinson will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Stinson was born on May 6, 1944 in Berrien County and was the son of Thomas Jackson “Jack” Stinson and Dorothy Margaret Bethune Stinson, both deceased. He was a retired truck driver with Scales Transport. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Tift Avenue Church of God. He served in the United States Navy and the Army National Guard. He was a loving and caring husband and deeply loved his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Stinson is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandra Wetherington Stinson of Tifton, to whom he married on March 6, 1965; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Donna Stinson of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Steve Suggs of Tifton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby Gene and Jan Lyle Stinson and Larry Joe and Gail Pitts Stinson, all of Tifton; four grandchildren, Jacob Stinson, Jessica Stinson, Kayla Suggs Germaine and husband, William, and Blake Suggs; and one great-grandson, Will Germaine.
