Yvette G. (Cote) Baptiste, 90, of Eastampton, NJ, formerly of New Bedford, died Tuesday, May 7, 2014. Yvette was the daughter of the late Remi and Eugenie (Desrochers) Cote and was the wife of the late Francis J. Baptiste to whom she was married for 64 years.
Yvette was employed as a executive secretary at the Morse Twist Drill, the National Alliance of Businessmen and the U. S. Coast Guard. She took pride in caring for her grandchildren, intermittently living with her daughter, Karen, at various Air Force bases in Massachusetts, California, and New Jersey. In 2006, she and her beloved husband, Frank, permanently relocated to New Jersey.
Her interests were multifaceted. She was an accomplished knitter. She loved playing the piano, dancing, and singing, and belonged to The Sweet Adelines. Yvette enjoyed traveling, bowling, doing crossword puzzles and going to casinos. As soon as the weather permitted, she would labor in her garden until dusk, taking pride in the comments of neighbors who said that she had the nicest yard on the street.
Yvette is survived by three daughters, Patricia Baptiste of New Bedford, Karen Kaylor of Eastampton, NJ, and Francine Alfonse of Dartmouth. She is the beloved grandmother of Shauna Adi-Kaylor, Daniel and Ryan Kaylor of Eastampton, NJ, Michael Alfonse of Quincy, Lauren Alfonse of Boston, and the late Thomas Alfonse, Jr. She is great-grandmother to Kalani and Kory and is also survived by several nieces and great-nephews.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. Visitation will be on Monday from 9-10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford prior to the Mass. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
