Steven D. Smith passed away May 1, 2014 in Lady Lake, Florida. He was an accomplished bass baritone graduating from The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He has appeared in many operas around the country and after moving to Florida in 2013, he was teaching music at the Learning College of Florida.
He is survived by his mother Marilu (Whelan) Smith, his brother Shawn Smith and wife Donna, his uncle William Whelan and wife Jean, his uncle and godfather David Whelan and wife Linda, along with many cousins and their children.
He was a loving son and brother and cared deeply for all of his family.
His Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 10 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 285 Mill St., New Bedford. Donations may be made in his name to the Providence Zen Center, 99 Pound Road, Cumberland, RI 02864. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
