Obituary

SPENCER: Elphege J. Lebel, 88, of 40 Wall Street died Thursday, May 1 in The Meadows of Leicester after a short illness.

He leaves a brother John P. Lebel of Boca Raton, FL, a sister Marie L. St. Thomas of Sterling and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother Paul T. Lebel and a sister Sr. Bernice A. Lebel, SP.

Mr. Lebel was born in Lawrence, son of Elphege E. and Edith (Howe) Lebel. He served in the United States Army during WW II with Company A-188th Engineer Combat Battalion in the European Theater of War. He grew up in the Webster Square area and as a young man he attended Commerce High School, worked at the Plymouth Theater and First National Store of Worcester. He worked at Speedway Auto Body, on Mill St. which his family owned for many years before moving to Spencer and retiring in 1987.He enjoyed the theater, playing bingo, bowling, oil painting, and dog & horse racing. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He loved getting together with family and friends and was often the life of the party.

A Graveside service will be held Thursday, May 8 in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon at 11:00 AM. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Meadows Resident Activity Fund, 111 Huntoon Memorial Highway, Rochdale, MA 01542. J.
