NEW BEDFORD -- Lloyd P. Chase, 91, of New Bedford died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the widower of Edith (Morris) Chase.
Born in Dorchester, the son of the late Frank and Elsie (Hart) Chase, he was a lifelong resident of the Greater New Bedford area.
He served in the Army during World War II; he was a marksman and paratrooper with the 101st and 82nd Airborne Division.
At his 91st birthday party, he received long overdue service medals: World War II Victory, American Campaign, European-African Campaign with two battle stars, Army Good Conduct and the Purple Heart.
Prior to his war service, he was an electrician with the Acushnet Process Co. A master electrician, he was the proprietor of Lloyd Chase Electrical Contracting Co., and had worked for Standard Electric and Hawes Electric.
Mr. Chase was a 32 degree mason. He had been a member of the Noquochoke Lodge A.F.& A.M.; docent at the New Bedford Glass Museum and the Whaling Museum; and a longtime supporter of the Waterfront Historic Area League.
He liked to garden and loved animals.
Survivors include his "family" at the Grinnell Mansion; four close friends, Tim Van Horn, home health aide Manuella Cormier, neighbor Eleanor Murray and legal guardian Lyn Keith; two nephews, Peter Chase and Robert Ferri; two nieces, Diane Chase and Marjorie Rancourt; two grandnephews; a sister-in-law, Ethel Chase; and a cousin, Harry Sedgwick.
He was the brother of the late Mabel Ferri, and Marjorie and Frank Chase.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2004, in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St. New Bedford, Ma. followed by burial with full military honors in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet, Ma. Visiting hours are Monday from 5-8 p.m.
