LACONIA - Charlotte (Clow) McLaughlin, age 99, died on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Belknap County Nursing Home where she had resided for the past ten years.
Charlotte was born in Lakeport on Aug. 30, 1914, the daughter of Rose (Girard) and Frank W. Clow, the youngest of eight children. She graduated from Laconia High school in 1933 and married her high school sweetheart, John F. McLaughlin of Laconia in 1936. They resided at 436 Elm Street for 63 years where Charlotte had an antique shop, The Little Bittersweet Shop. She dealt in fine china and art glass. Earlier, she had worked in the O’Shea’s Department Store in cosmetics and clothing, as well as modeling and buying.
Charlotte and John were lifelong communicants of Our Lady of the Lakes Church in Lakeport where they had been married. She was a member of the Lakeport Sewing Club for many years and enjoyed birding, antiquing, painting and homemaking.
Charlotte is survived by three daughters: Colleen Phelps and her husband, Ivan, Linda Tate and her husband, Michael, Gina Hill and her husband David, all of Sanbornton, NH. She had nine grandchildren, Jonathan Yu Phelps of Cambridge, Donna Hebert of Hillsboro, Michael J. Tate of Sanbornton, Paula Tate-Moreau of Lee, Amy Tate of Middletown, Ct., Timothy Hill of Sanbornton, and David Hill of Athens, Texas. She also had ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband John passed away in 2003.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014, from 4PM to 6PM at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home at 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Andre Bessette Parish - St. Joseph Church, 30 Church St, Laconia. Burial will follow at Bayside Cemetery in Laconia.
Charlotte was an animal lover all her life and would be pleased to have memorial donations made to the New Hampshire Humane Society, PO BOX 572, Laconia, NH 03247, in lieu of flowers.
