CHICOPEE – Andrew J. Campbell, 81, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Roxton Falls, Province of Quebec, Canada, on May 24, 1932, a son of the late Joseph A. and Emma (Genereux) Campbell. At the age of 14, he came with his parents and settled in Holyoke. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Private First Class. He received the Army of Occupation Medal Germany and the National Defense Service Medal. Following his military service, he returned to Holyoke, furthered his education and attended the Hart School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut. Following graduation, he opened the Academy School of Music in Holyoke, Chicopee and Springfield. He was a well-known musician and was an accomplished accordionist. He later retired and was employed for several years at the former Clement Paint Store on Brown Street in Holyoke. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nora B. (Miller) Campbell who passed away on July 3, 2007. He leaves his two sons, Kenneth J. Campbell and his wife, Janet, of Windsor Locks, CT, and Bruce A. Campbell and his wife, Trish, of Springfield; his five grandchildren, David Campbell and his wife, Cyndi, Krista Campbell, twins Jamie and Jessica Campbell, and Jason Smith and his wife, Cindy; his two great-granddaughters, Cassandra Campbell and Kaeli Campbell; and his many nephews and nieces. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his two sisters, Lola Labelle and Yvette Wells. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with US Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
