Albert Lethiecq Babcock MD passed away on April 23, 2014, peacefully at home in Duxbury MA. He was born in 1926 to Edward Babcock and Dorothy Lethiecq Babcock of Bangor, ME, and worked in the greater Hartford area as a plastic surgeon for 45 years, from 1963 to 2008.
Albert leaves behind his companion Antonia Colby Shoham of Duxbury, MA, his children, Linda Babcock of Haydenville, MA, Jonathan of Fraser, CO, David of West Hartford, CT, and Daniel and Janna of Meridian, ID. He will deeply be missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren David Jr., Ted, Kelly, Abigail, Jacob, Grace, and great-grandson Jameson, nieces and nephews Brit, Ted, Hannah, Christopher Babcock, and step-daughter Susan Donnelly. Albert is survived by his sister, Jane Babcock, sister-in-law Nancy Babcock, both of Portland ME, and former wives Rhoda Bannon and Patricia Williams.
Albert was passionate about his work and brought his dedication and skills in reconstructive surgery to people in need in international settings. In 1975 his first volunteer assignment was on the hospital ship HOPE in Tunisia, and his greatest personal satisfaction came from his many volunteer trips to Brazil through the Esperança Project on the Amazon River, in Recife and Santarém. Albert also relished his many ties to his home state of Maine, and he enjoyed time outdoors on Mt. Desert Island and the wilderness areas of Baxter State Park. Friends who wish to remember Albert and his lifelong work may make a donation to esperanca.org of Phoenix, AZ.
