William “Bill” Curtis, son of Arthur and Helene Curtis, died on April 28th after a short illness at age 85. A long-term resident of Needham and Brighton, Bill more recently resided happily at the Mt. Pleasant Home in Jamaica Plain. He obtained his beautician’s license at the young age of 16 and was a practicing hairdresser with a large following for 67 years first in Boston and later in Needham. A talented artist in his youth, Bill once again took up his brush in his retirement.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Elaine (Patrakis) Curtis. He leaves his sons, William Curtis Jr. and wife, Mary, of Chicopee, and Michael Curtis and wife, Jean, of East Longmeadow. His brother, James Curtis, and wife, Adrienne of Brockton and his sister, Kay Balasalle, and husband, Nick of Jamaica Plain, also survive him. A sister, Judy, wife of John Papajohn, predeceased Bill. He also leaves his granddaughter, Grace, and many nieces and nephews.
