Elizabeth (Devine) Colson, 94, of Groton Long Point, died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at home with family after a brief illness.
Lib Colson was born July 11, 1919, in Bristol, the daughter of Joseph D. and Caroline (Chapman) Devine. She was predeceased by her husband, Gardner “Bud” Colson; and a son, Daryl Robertson Jr.
Starting with summer visits to her family cottage in the 1920s, Lib’s love of Groton Long Point was an integral part of her life. She was active in the Groton Long Point Women’s Organization for many years with a particular interest in archival collection. She also enjoyed various arts groups and studied art when first in college. The hosts of countless summer and holiday family gatherings, Lib and Bud were responsible for the creation of indelible memories of family lore, laughter and song.
She is survived by Cal Robertson of Groton Long Point, son of her first husband, Daryl; her stepdaughters, Cathi Mundsinger of Oswego, Ill. and Libby Howting, of Monona, Wis. and their children, grandchildren and great-grand children. Lib’s love encompassed a multitude of nieces and nephews and their families; the children of her deceased sister, brother and sister-in-law, Jane (Devine) Delaney, Joseph D. Devine and Barbara (Colson) Brewer.
A celebration of Lib’s life will be held at a later date.
