Obituary

…devoted mother, grandmother, sister; 90
TEWKSBURY - Virginia R. (DeBenedetto) Marotto, age 90, died April 28th at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center following a brief illness. Known for the “twinkle in her eye”, she was the beloved wife for 61 years of Alfred Marotto, who died on June 5, 2013. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Marotto of Methuen and Brenda Marotto and her husband Marc Potvin of Brentwood, NH; two beloved grandchildren, Tatyanna “Tia” Marotto-Potvin and Shanice Marotto-Potvin of Brentwood; a sister, Florence DeBenedetto of Reading; a sister-in-law, Rose Baro of Townsend; and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia was born in East Boston, on July 14, 1923, a daughter of the late Marco and Rose (Anadore) DeBenedetto. During WWII, she worked in the Charlestown Navy Yard, and later General Electric in Lynn. Upon her marriage to Al, they moved to Medford to raise their family. In 1974 they moved to Andover, and retired to Bayberry at Emerald Court in Tewksbury in 2013.
Virginia was a strong, feisty woman with a heart of gold and quick sense of humor. She showered her family with unconditional love, teaching her daughters respect and compassion for others. “Nana Ginny” could always elicit a big smile from her adoring grandaughters. She enjoyed spending days working in her yard in Andover and relaxing each evening with a little Kahlua in her coffee.
Her funeral service was held Saturday, May 3, in the funeral home, followed by burial in St. Mary Cemetery, No. Tewksbury. Memorials to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, 199 Water St, 23rd Floor, NY, NY 10038, or charity of your choice will be appreciated.
