SPRINGFIELD – Samuel C. “Sut” Sotiropoulos, 94, a longtime resident of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, April 27, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in New York City on August 20, 1919, a beloved son of the late Charles and Catherine (Alachas) Sotiropoulos. At a young age, he came with his family to Springfield where he was raised. He graduated from the former Springfield Trade High School and lived in the city for most of his life. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II with the 507th Ordnance Automotive Maintenance Company and attained the rank of Technician Fourth Grade. He served in Rhineland and Central Europe and received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, he returned to Springfield and was employed for many years as a supervisor at Belmont Laundry. He was a member of the Melha Shrine and a communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Lena (Consiglio) Sotiropoulos who was Called Home on July 7, 2001. He leaves his loving children, Catherine H. Sotiropoulos of Chicopee, Mark J. Sotiropoulos and his fiancée, Kathleen Rivers, of Chicopee, Carlo P. Sotiropoulos and his fiancée, Sharon Scott, of South Hadley and Scott S. Sotiropoulos and his wife, Elizabeth, of Hampden; his four cherished grandchildren, Joseph Sotiropoulos, Tracy Hollaway, Arianna Anamisis and Lena Sotiropoulos; his eight cherished great-grandchildren; his dear brothers, Leo Sotiropoulos and his wife, Sarah, of Florida and Nicholas Sotiropoulos and his wife, Christine, of Wilbraham; his dear sister, Mary Theocles of Wilbraham; his dear sister-in-law, Pearl Sotiropoulos of Hampden; his dear granddaughter-in-law, Terri Sotiropoulos of Waterford, CT; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Sotiropoulos and Consiglio families. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his dear brothers and sister, John Sotiropoulos, James Sotiropoulos, and Dimitra Guerci. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, May 2, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.) followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. His burial with US Army Military Honors will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Thomas J.
