John T. Bower of Medford died Thursday, April 24 in the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. Born in Lockhaven, PA, he was the son of the late Ralph and Lois (Butler) Bower. John proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, then settled in Somerville before moving to Medford where he lived for the past 37 years. John worked as a crane operator in the Charlestown shipyard.
He was the beloved husband of Marianne (Melanson) and devoted father of Corinne Marks and her husband Donald of Medford. John was the loving grandfather of Eric Marks, and brother of Rose Purcell, Kate Allen, Sarah Korman and her husband Dean, Lois Brookens and her husband Anson, Richard Bower, Toner Bower and his wife Bonnie, Robert Bower and his wife Debra, George Bower and his wife Jamie, Harold Bower and his wife Cindy, Harvey Bower, all of PA. He is also survived by Marie Murray, her husband Nick, their sons Nicholas, Jonathan and Matthew, all of Methuen, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be celebrated in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Monday, April 28 at 7 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family from 4 - 7 PM.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in John’s name to MGH - C/O Heart Transplant Dept., 55 Fruit St. Boston, MA 02114.
