Obituary

Barbara A. “Babs” (Bennett) Murphy of Wellesley, Chatham and formerly of Wayland passed away on April 24, 2014.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late Thomas B. Bennett and Marion C. (McCutcheon) Bennett.
Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Charles A. “Chuck” Murphy who died in April of 2012 and her two children Joanne and Bruce Murphy. She is survived by her devoted son, James C. Murphy and his wife Shelagh Murphy of Wayland and her cherished grandchildren Michael and Meghan Murphy of Wayland. She was the sister of the late Joan Chapin.
Babs spent her formative years in New York, graduating from Manhasset High School in Manhasset, NY. She received her BA in Fine Arts from Middlebury College with the Class of 1956. In her earlier years she was associated with the American Cyanamid Co. in NYC, NY. She was a devoted caregiver to her family who was the center of her life and also spent many hours volunteering for Cystic Fibrosis. Babs and her late husband Chuck enjoyed splitting their time between their Wellesley and Chatham homes, and often wintered in Naples, FL. Babs enjoyed travel and the outdoors, but especially loved and delighted in watching her grandchildren, Michael and Meghan play sports.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11:00 o’clock at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 169 Rice Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main Street, Natick, MA 01760.
