Obituary

George F. Sturtevant of Watertown, formerly of Newton died on Tuesday November 3rd at the Briarwood Healthcare in Needham. He was 74 years old. Mr. Sturtevant grew up in Brighton. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1948 and served until 1950 at which time he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. George served in Navy until 1954 and was awarded the Purple Heart as well as the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. After his discharge from the Navy Mr. Sturtevant worked for the MBTA for many years. He also worked for the Herald Traveler. The son of the late Helen C. (Barton) and Charles A. Sturtevant George leaves his beloved companion of 30 years Ann M. D’Angelo. He also leaves his family including Michael D’Angelo and his family of Seekonk, Joann Colton and her family of Newton, Richard D’Angelo and his family of Newton and Felicia D’Angelo, USS NIMITZ, of San Diego CA. Mr. Sturtevant also leaves his aunt Alice E. McLaughlin of Arizona and cousins Robert and Stephanie Barton of Needham, Ruth and Stephen Ftorek of Needham, James and Nita Barton of Derry NH, Lillian and Joe Reiss of Dedham, Paul and Lillian Barton of Brighton and the late Richard Barton of Scituate. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Monday November 8th at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Joseph Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 5-8 PM. Interment with Military Honors at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Needham. In lieu of flowers donations in George’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
