Susan R. (McDermott) Cannizzaro, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 68 years old.
Susan was born in Chelsea on September 2, 1945, a daughter of the late Andrew P. McDermott and Bertha (Boyle) McDermott. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1963. Susan worked as a Traffic Supervisor for the City of Boston for over 15 years and retired in 2006. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking but most of all she cherished the quality time she was able to spend with her family.
Susan is the beloved wife of the late Joseph M. Cannizzaro Sr. She is the devoted mother of Michele Cannizzaro of Charlestown, Joseph M. Cannizzaro Jr. of Charlestown, Beth A. Vigilante of Charlestown, Rosetta and her husband Paul Cannizzaro of Charlestown and the late Dorene M. Shannon and her husband Eric H. Shannon. She is the loving Nana to Payton, Joseph III and Johnathan. She is the beloved sister of Mary Ellen Duggan and her husband Walter of Charlestown, Andrew McDermott and his wife Catherine of Halifax and Donna Thomas and her late husband Arthur of Hanson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Susan's Funeral on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Interment at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield. Visiting hours will be on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
