IPSWICH – Raymond J. Bouchie, 87, died early Sunday morning, April 13, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Grace V. (Randazza) Bouchie, who died in July of 2007. They had shared forty-three years of marriage.
Born in Boston on October 20, 1926, he was the son of the late Herman A. and Marie (Boudreau) Bouchie. He had resided in Gloucester for many years before moving to Ipswich in 1976.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Samar, the USS Ringness and USS APL -29. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Quartermaster Third Class in September of 1952 and was a member of the American Legion.
He was employed as a commercial fisherman and worked aboard numerous vessels. He enjoyed horseracing, crossword puzzles, and cribbage.
Ray will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature. Always the optimist, he lived with dignity and played the hand that life dealt. His love for his family was great and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by two sons, Elbert E. Murphy of Venice Beach, FL and Anthony J., husband of Melinda Murphy of Epping, NH, seven grandchildren, Benjamin Carr, Timothy, Joshua, Jonathan, Erik, Carletta and Elbert Murphy, III, three great-grandchildren, Elise Ann, Brayson and Elizabeth Rose Murphy; two brothers, Robert Bouchie of Ipswich, MA and Ronald, husband of Andrea Bouchie and a sister Sandra, wife of John Sperry of Gloucester. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Rose (Murphy) Carr.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
