Paula M. (Mitchell) Seymour, 79, of Winchester, passed away suddenly on April 12, 2014. She was the beloved wife of the late Roger Graham Seymour. Born in Cambridge, MA, Paula was the daughter of the late Richard J. and Madeleine (Kelly) Mitchell.
After graduating from high school, Mrs. Seymour enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alabama. She played for the 14th Army Band at Fort McClellan and was a talented musician who taught herself how to play the piano. She enjoyed a variety of music including ragtime, classical and blues.
During a brief retirement, Paula took classes in botanical drawing and graphic design. She returned to the workforce as an employee of Verizon where she worked until she retired at the age of 74.
Paula loved playing with and having peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with her grandson Thomas. She also valued her lunch-time gatherings with her friends. In her spare time she would learn new songs on the piano, draw, create artwork in Photoshop, play scrabble and listen to the music of Hugh Laurie. She loved her cats that she had rescued, providing them with excellent care (one recently lived to the very ripe old age of 20).
Mrs. Seymour is survived by her children: David Seymour of Winchester, Jane T. Seymour of CT and Edward Seymour of NH. She was the dear sister of the late Richard J. Mitchell, Jr., Robert E. Mitchell, Ann C. Mitchell and Mary V. Grace, the loving grandmother of Thomas D. Seymour, and is further survived by many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Gathering will be held in the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St., Winchester on Sun., April 27 from 11-2PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. If desired, donations in Paula’s memory may be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter 347 Highland Ave. Salem, MA 01970.
