Obituary

WEBSTER - Charles J. “Charlie” Baron, 93, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester after a period of declining health.
He leaves his wife of almost 70 years, Wanda K. (Kosciak) Baron; a son, Charles E. Baron; a daughter, Geraldine A. “Deanie” Sherry and her husband David W. Sherry, all of Webster; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie Dollar and her husband Christopher of Atlanta, GA, Stacey Ardini and her husband Drew of Boston, Michael Sherry and his wife Audry of Douglas, and Kevin Sherry and his wife Sara Jane of Aldie, VA; 7 great-grandchildren, Baron Hayden Sherry, Caroline Theresa Sherry, Maggie Sophia Ardini, Allison Jane Ardini, Emma Caroline Sherry, Hannah Katherine Sherry and Grayson Wade Dollar; nephews, nieces and good friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter “Bill” Baron and by 3 sisters, Mary Hanatow, Frances Rogalski and Josephine Miller.
He was born in Webster, the son of Jan and Helen (Gac) Baron, and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1939. He was a class officer and a member of the National Honor Society. After his marriage on May 6, 1944, he lived in Uxbridge for 12 years before moving back here in the 1950’s.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant with the 100th Infantry Division.
Mr. Baron was a meat cutter for 46 years before he retired in 2001. He worked in Jakubowski’s Market and was the manager of the meat department at Thrifty’s Market. He also worked at Park ‘N’ Shop and at Jimmy’s Market.
He was a member of Saint Joseph’s Basilica and a 73 year member of the Webster-Dudley Knights of Columbus Council #228. He belonged to the Polish American Veterans, the Disabled American Veterans, the 100th Army Division Association, and was a 73 year member of the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184. He was the last living charter member of the Booster Athletic Club. He was a member of the Polish American Citizens Club of Webster and the Uxbridge Auxiliary, Polish National Alliance.
Mr. Baron enjoyed politics. He was a member of the Webster School Committee and its clerk for 18 years, a member of the Bartlett High School Building Committee and a former member of the Democratic Town Committee. He held the position of milk inspector and animal inspector for the Town of Webster Board of Health for over 25 years.
He was an avid sports fan and a former member of the Webster-Dudley Golf Club.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 12, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, April 11, in the funeral home.
