Obituary

Ben McMahan, 28, of Ocilla, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, April 11, 2014, at Ocilla United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jay Roberson and the Rev. Craig Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Ben was born August 10, 1985 in Adel, Georgia to Dr. Howard C. & Janet Miller McMahan. He spent most of his life in Irwin County. He was a 2004 graduate of Irwin County High School where he played baseball and golf and wrestled. He attended Valdosta State University, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and Georgia Southern University. Ben was a true outdoorsman and hunting was a particular passion. He enjoyed hunting deer, duck, and quail and bass fishing as well as riding dirt roads throughout the area. He farmed with his brother-in-law and enjoyed taxidermy. Ben took many courses ranging from engineering to real estate. He worked in Information Technology for Irwin Family Medicine and was a member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church. One of Ben’s legacies will be that he lived life to the fullest, squeezing every moment of enjoyment out of life.

He is survived by his parents: Dr. & Mrs. Howard C. McMahan; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Angie McMahan Young and Bridget McMahan Walters & Wes; and a brother and a sister-in-law: Howard C. “Hank” McMahan, Jr. & Lindsey, all of Ocilla; nieces and nephews: Madison Young, Preslee Walters, Darbee Young, Wesley “Bubba” Walters, Howard C. “Cleve” McMahan, III, and Cash McMahan; the love of his life: Jodi Maloy; his faithful companion: Delta, his chocolate retriever; paternal grandparents: Mr. & Mrs. C.M. McMahan of Grovetown; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Mr. & Mrs. Henry Miller of Harlem.

The family suggests those desiring to send memorials may send them to the Ben McMahan Memorial Account to be used to buy water filters for cancer patients.
