Obituary

George A. Purcell, 86, of Derry, NH died Monday November 1, 2004 at his home after a period of declining health. Mr. Purcell was born in Derry on February 26, 1918, the youngest son of the late John R. Purcell and Elizabeth (Ball) (Purcell) Caron. He was a resident of Derry since 1980, previously living and working in the Greater Hartford, CT area. Before retiring in 1980, he was a machinist at Hamilton Standard, served as Vice-President of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and also served as Business Representative of IAM District Lodge 91. He was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran and a 24 year member of the Henry J. Sweeney American Legion Post #2 of Manchester. He enjoyed bridge and cribbage and was also an avid golfer and member of the Derryfield Club for many years. Mr. Purcell was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Purcell and Kenneth Purcell.

He is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth M. Purcell of New York City, NY, Patricia M. Purcell and Cynthia J. Purcell, both of Derry, Trina A. Purcell of Denver, CO, former wife, Alma L. Purcell of Cape Cod, MA, step-sister, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Miller of Hudson, NH, grandson, Miles J. Fischer, great grandson, Zachery Fischer of Granby, CT, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Friday November 5th at 10:00am at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry, NH. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3 - 5 and 7 -9pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rockingham Nutrition Meals-on-Wheels Program, 106 N. North Road, Brentwood, NH 03833 or the Henry J. Sweeney American Legion Post Baseball Team, 251 Maple Street, Manchester, NH 03103.
