Raymond Franklin Carpenter, 90, of Tifton died Friday, April 4, 2014, at Golden Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014, at Vanceville Congregational Christian Church. Rev. Phil Carpenter will officiate with burial to follow in Lawrence Cemetery. Mr. Carpenter’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 6, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Carpenter will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Carpenter was born on March 23, 1924 in Cullman County, Alabama and was the son of the late W. C. Carpenter, Sr. and Evie Brown Carpenter. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, W. C. Carpenter Jr., Paul Carpenter, Edith Larter, James Carpenter and Gladys Carpenter. He was a veteran of World War II and an active Christian all of his life.
Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Rutland Carpenter of Tifton; his children and their spouses, Kathy and Larry Lloyd of Winona Lake, Indiana, Carol and John Wilson of Cornelia, Sam and Connie Carpenter of Tifton, Phil and Susan Carpenter of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and James Carpenter of Columbia, South Carolina; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
