Shirley M. (DeCosta) Gomes, 76, of New Bedford died Sunday October 31, 2004 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel H. Gomes.
Born in Middleboro, the daughter of the late Wesley A. DeCosta and Vera F. (Washburn) Bruno, she had lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Mrs. Gomes was formerly employed at the Red Coach Grill in Middleboro in the 1950's.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and also enjoyed gardening and reading.
Survivors include 2 sons, Robert M. Gomes, and his wife Diana, of New Bedford, and Richard P. Gomes, and his wife Kathleen, of Middleboro; 2 daughters, Katherine A. Gomes of New Bedford, and Pamela Conway, and her husband William, of Taunton; a stepbrother, Salvatore Bruno of Brockton; 9 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday November 3, 2004 at 9 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday November 2, 2004 from 7-9 PM.
