PORT ORANGE, FL - Marie J. (Coluci) Whelan, 83, a Tewksbury resident for most of her life,died Thursday, Oct. 21, at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, after a brief illness. She was wifeof the late John J. Whelan, who died in Oct. in 1991.

She was born in Medford, May 23, 1921, a daughter of the late Fred and Bernice (Reynolds)Coluci. She was raised in Medford, and lived in Tewksbury for 35 years, most recently at theFlucker Heights Senior Community. Over the last years she had divided her year betweenTewksbury, Wells, Maine, and Port Orange.

In her earlier years she worked for Jan’s Store in Tewksbury which became Marshall’s. Afterretiring form Marshall’s, she worked at Purity’s market in Tewksbury.

She was a communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury, a member of the TewksburyGolden Age Club, and worked as a Senior Volunteer at both the Lowell and Tewksbury SeniorCenters.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. and her husband Fred Knowlton ofBillerica; two sons and daughters-in-law, John J. and his wife Betty (Huelskoetter) Whelan Jr ofTampa, FL, Michael E. and his wife Lois (Barry) Whelan of Lowell; two sisters, TheresaMoulaison of Port Orange, Dorothy Sinton of Kingston, NH; a brother Fred Colucci of TN; threegrandchildren; John Whelan, Eric and Mark Knowlton.

She was also grandmother of the late Michael Whelan, and sister of the late Robert Coluci.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at a place and time to be announced.
