Obituary

Gilford-----Richard Allan Miller, 83, of 235 Chestnut Drive, died at the Laconia Rehabilitation Center, Laconia on Sunday, March 30, 2014.
Mr. Miller was born May 31, 1930 in Irvington, New Jersey, the son of Claus J. and Mildred A. (Rowley) Miller. He resided in New Jersey for a number of years and graduated from Nutley High School in Nutley, New Jersey. He attended Nichols Jr. College, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Newark Technical College. He served as a Fire Control Technician in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Bauer (DC-26) and the USS Shea (DM-30).
Mr. Miller moved from Jefferson Township, N.J. to Gilford, N.H. twenty-eight years ago. He had been employed at Wickes Lumber for twenty-two years, retiring in 1988.
Mr. Miller was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Gilford and a ten year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port S. Lucie, Florida. He was a member of the American Legion Wilkins-Smith Post #1 and the Lakes Region Singers. He enjoyed singing in the church choirs and with the Lakes Region Singers. Richard was a loyal veteran and a proud American.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marilyn (Messer) Miller, of Gilford; a son, Scott A. Miller of Marshalls Creek, Penn.; a daughter, Cindy S. Pollard, of Jefferson Township, N.J.; two grandchildren, Erin Miller of Marshalls Creek, Penn and Ashley Miller of Raleigh, N.C. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Miller was predeceased by a son, Craig R. Miller and by a brother, Claus F. Miller.
There will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 10AM at the First United Methodist Church, 18 Wesley Way, Gilford, N.H.
Burial will be at a later date at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, N.H.
