Obituary


Howard B. Clifford, 100, of Westport, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center. He was the husband of the late Beatrice M. (Mills) Clifford.
Born in Brattleboro, VT, son of the late James and Nellie (Coats) Bell, he had resided in both Westport and Dartmouth for most of his life. Prior to his retirement in 1975, he worked as a steamfitter at the former Anderson & Olsen of New Bedford. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, New Bedford. Mr. Clifford was a member and Past Patron of the Cortez Allen Chapter #161 O.E.S. and Past Master of the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. &A.M., both of Westport. He was a member of the Rhode Island Shrine Club, the Southeastern Mass Shrine Club, the AZAB Groto of Fall River and the Scottish Rite of Wareham. He also belonged to the Mass Chapter of Grand Representatives and was Past Grand Representative to Louisiana. Mr. Clifford was an avid bowler and Red Sox fan and enjoyed both golfing and boating.
Survivors include his daughter: Janet L. Hart of Westport; 2 grandchildren: Kevin H. Hart of Dartmouth and Jane M. Pariseau of Westport; 4 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Margaret Nelson.
Graveside service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-7 P.M., with an Order of the Eastern Star Service at 6:00 P.M. and a Masonic Service at 6:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Westport, 305 Hix Bridge Rd., Westport, MA 02790.
