Scanlan, John J., Jr., of Marshfield, passed away on March 24, 2014 surrounded by his loved ones. He was a beacon of light, love, and laughter for his large extended family and many friends. Raised in Quincy, Jack was one of five children of Mary (Russo) Scanlan of Quincy and the late John J. Scanlan, Sr. Jack will long be remembered for his ability to bring out the best in everyone. His boundless enthusiasm and generosity invited those around him to share his joyful optimistic view of the world. Jack was a teacher in the Quincy Public Schools for 34 years and held many positions in Marshfield Schools and his church.
Jack leaves his wife Kathleen (McSweeney) Scanlan of Marshfield, his beloved children Stephanie F. Scanlan, Caitlin M. Scanlan, and the late Eilise Scanlan, as well as his former wife Janet (Chilenski) Scanlan. Brother to Elizabeth Storlazzi and her husband Michael of Braintree, Kathleen Barkas of Quincy, Eileen Kelliher and her husband Bryan of Norwell, James and his wife Suzanne Scanlan of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and Huguette Trainor and her husband Frank of Braintree. Jack is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street Rte. 139, Marshfield on Thursday, March 27 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral from the funeral home on Friday, March 28 at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Christine Church, 1295 Main Street, Marshfield at 10:00 AM. Interment will be held at Couch Cemetery.
