Obituary

John Glover Stanley 76, of Needham died on Friday October 29th at his home after a long illness. Born in Jackson Heights New York, John moved to Needham when he was two. He graduated from Needham High School in 1947 and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. John was discharged from the Navy in 1952 and continued his education at Northeastern University graduating in 1954 with a degree in accounting. He went to work as the accountant for his father in law Weldon Colpitts who owned W. T. Colpitts Plumbing in Needham. With the company growing John was more involved and later became a plumber and owned and operated the family business for many years until his retirement in 1980. While in Needham, John was very active in the Masonic Order, he was Past Master of Nehoiden Lodge AF& AM, Past High Priest Mt. Vernon Royal Arch Chapter, District Deputy Grand High Priest 13th District and Grand Scribe for Grand Royal Arch Chapter. John was very active in the Congregational Church of Needham serving on numerous boards and committees, serving as a church Deacon, teaching confirmation classes as well as taping Sunday sermons for the hearing impaired and shut ins. He was also a former Town Meeting member for many years. John was the beloved husband of Merna (Colpitts). Loving father of Lynne Susan Stanley and her partner Bobby Thompson of Dover NH. David Weldon Stanley and his wife Darlene and Robert Glover Stanley all of Needham. Dear grandfather of Ryan, Robyn and Jeremy, Robert Jr., Cecilia, Charlotte and Crystal Stanley all of Needham and Joshua and Nicholas Thompson of Dover NH. A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church of Needham 1154 Great Plain Ave on Saturday Nov. 6th at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly. Visiting hours at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Monday from 3-5 &-7-9 Pm. Masonic services conducted by Nehoiden Lodge AF& AM will be held Monday evening at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials in John’s memory may be made to the Guatemala Committee, Checks may be payable to the Congregational Church of Needham in memo “Guatemala Committee” 1154 Great Plain Ave Needham MA 02492 and to the Needham Masonic Angel Fund C/O Nehoiden Lodge 1101 Highland Ave. Needham MA 02492.
