Aurelio Fortes, 68, of New Bedford died March 22, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the fiancé of Arminda Santos of New Bedford, and son of the late João M. and Eufrezina (Mendes) Fortes.
Mr. Fortes was born in Brava, Cape Verde, and had lived in New Bedford since 1960.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Fortes was formerly employed at Regal Beloid for 27 years until his retirement.
Survivors include his fiancée; 2 sons, João Fortes of E. Providence, RI, and David Fortes of New Bedford; 3 daughters, Maria Sonya Lima, Bettyann Fortes and Priscilla Fortes, all of New Bedford; 6 brothers, Joaquim Fortes, Alberto Fortes, Pedro Fortes, Paulo Fortes and João Fortes, all of Brockton, and Bento Fortes of Providence, RI; 3 sisters, Victoria Neves of New Bedford, and Maria Fatima Gomes and Maria Neves, both of Brockton; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
