BYRD - Iva Lee "Ike" Byrd, 84, passed away Saturday evening, March 22, 2014 at her Yulee residence with her family by her side.
Mrs. Byrd was born July 24, 1929 in Screven, GA, the daughter of Lige and Elvira Thornton. On August 30, 1952 she and her devoted husband of 56 years, Joseph L. Byrd, were married. in 1954 she moved to Fernandina Beach and then to Yulee. Mrs. Byrd was a Godly woman who loved her family with her whole heart. They were always first in her life second only next to her Lord Jesus. She attended River of Praise Worship Center.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph L. Byrd, a sister, Jaquetta Murphy, her brothers, Lendol Thornton and Denvis "Dink" Thornton, and by her parents Lige and Elvira Thornton.
Survivors include two sons, Rocky (Valerie) Byrd and Gary (Barbara) Byrd, all of Yulee; a sister, Myra "Nell" Anderson of Jesup, GA; six grandchildren, Kacey (Andy) King, Erica (Scott) Knowles, Clint Byrd, Heather Byrd, Kenny Baker, and Greg Baker; eight great grandchildren, Blaine Kilpatrick, Brett Kilpatrick, Taylor Ritter, Makayla Baker, Chelsea Baker, Jackson Baker, Aric Byrd and Shaina King; two great-great grandchildren, Gunner Kilpatrick and Elenie King; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at River of Praise Worship Center with Bishop Larry Osburn officiating. Interment will follow in Green Pine Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Green Pine Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
