Obituary

DANVERS - Charlotte Ruth (Potts) Britton, 99, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at her residence at Putnam Farms in Danvers.
Born December 5, 1914, in Johnstown PA, she was the daughter of the late Ferling J. and Mabel P. (Gill) Potts. She married Richard K. Britton of Dayton, OH on April 2, 1942 in Douglaston, NY. They lived in Connecticut, New York, and Virginia before returning to New England in 1996. Richard died in 1997 in Manchester, NH.
Mrs. Britton was a graduate of the United States Secretarial School in Manhattan and was a secretary for a Park Avenue doctor in the early 1940s. She later worked for several years as secretary to Gertrude Feder, Director of Social Services at Beverly Hospital. She was active in church and civic affairs and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her two sons, James F. Britton of Sheridan, OR and Richard O. Britton of Gloucester, MA; her grandson, Aaron K. Britton of Olympia, WA. She also leaves several cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Charlotte was also a “second mom” or “second grandma” to many who did not have one. She was also predeceased by her brother, Robert J. Potts.
There will be a memorial service for Mrs. Britton at St. John's Episcopal Church in Gloucester, MA at a date to be determined and graveside remembrances at her interment in the family plot in Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, Dayton, OH, also at a date to be determined. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Charlotte to Care Dimensions (formerly Hospice of the North Shore), 75 Sylvan St., Danvers MA 01923, and to St. John's Episcopal Church, 48 Middle St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
