William J. Bruce, 85, of New Bedford died March 21, 2014 peacefully at Falmouth Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Mary (Mullins) Bruce.
Born in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Walter and Mary Ellen (Collins) Bruce, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Bruce was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
He was formerly employed as a commercial fisherman and later by the Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket Steamship Authority for many years until his retirement.
Survivors include his 3 sons, Thomas Bruce and his wife Susan of Rochester, Stephen Bruce and his wife Nancy of East Bridgewater and Kevin Bruce and his wife Sharon of Marstons Mills; a daughter, Kathleen Hawk and her husband Matthew of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Tuesday, March 25th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be on Monday, March 24th from 4-8 PM.
