BEVERLY FARMS: Richard A. “Dick” McGann, 88, died peacefully early Wednesday, March 19, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Burchstead) McGann.
Born in Beverly on June 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Andrew J. and Margaret M. (Naylor) McGann. A lifelong resident of Beverly Farms, Dick was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1943. In retirement, he and Barbara enjoyed spending part of the year in Largo, Florida. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War Two. He had a tough persona, but anyone who knows him, knew that his family was the most important part of his life. He was a wonderful, husband, father and grandfather.
Dick was employed at the Boston Gas Company for thirty-five years before his retirement as plant supervisor in 1980. He was a member of the Union Club in Beverly and the Amaral Bailey Post #113, American Legion of Manchester-by-the-Sea.
In addition to his wife of sixty-six years, he is survived by his daughter, Beth A. LeBel; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Paula McGann and Robert and Kathy McGann all of Beverly; five grandchildren, Katie Murray and her husband, Sean, Ali LeBel, Andrew LeBel and his wife, Melanie, Kelly McGann and Jill McGann; a great-granddaughter, Lucy Murray and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Kenneth LeBel and four brothers, F. John, Andrew, William and Thomas McGann.
His funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours.
