Joan A. (McMillan) Castro, 70, of Little Compton, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, Mass. She was the wife of Antonio R. Castro, Sr.
Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Joseph M. and Alice (Wallworth) McMillan, she lived in Brattleboro, VT shortly before spending her last 40 years in Little Compton, RI. She was a graduate of the former Mount St. Mary’s School of Fall River and a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Little Compton. Joan was a devoted worker for Ester Simonds and later for her daughter Edie Borden and her husband Dave Borden. A job she loved dearly.
Survivors along with her husband include 1 son: Antonio R. Castro, Jr., of Tiverton; 2 daughters: Tanis M. Camara of Little Compton and Lisa A. Cotta of Tiverton; 1 sister: Margaret Gonsalves and her husband William of Fall River; her 3 grandchildren that she loved with all her heart: Christopher & Christine Cotta and Joseph Camara, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Ernest McMillan and Alice Dias.
Joan enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, fishing, watching the Red Sox and hunting for shells at the beach with her dog Bailey.
A mother who was always kind and caring. Her never ending love for her family will be sorely missed.
A Mass will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Little Compton, RI at 10:00 A.M.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
