Griffin Metto, 20, the beloved son of Gregory and Nancy Metto of Franklin died on Friday, March 14th after a very brief illness.
Griffin was born and raised in Franklin. He attended Franklin schools and graduated from Franklin High School. A former participant in Franklin youth baseball and basketball, Griff played town sports from grammar school through high school.
Griff enjoyed Latin, specifically Roman history and was a past member of the Massachusetts State Latin Certamen team. He was a junior at Colby College in Waterville, Maine where he was a double major in Classics and Government. He had just been elected to Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. Griff was the news editor of the Colby Echo and a member of Model UN. He had hoped to attend law school.
His love of the Sox and Celtics was unwavering and he attended as many games as he could. Griff was an old soul. We hope that Griff will be remembered for his kindness, his smile, his intelligence and his loyalty. Family and friends were important to him and he enjoyed the time he spent with them. His presence in this world will be missed by many.
Along with his parents, Griffin is survived by the following uncles and aunts: Robert and Ann Naples of Quincy, Richard and Valerie MacLean of Brockton, Kevin and Joan McDonough of Whitman, James and Yoshiko McDonough of Okinawa, Japan, Brian McDonough of Quincy, Paul and Christine McDonough of Weymouth, and Eugene and Emily Metto of South Hampton, NH. He is also survived by numerous cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass on Friday, March 21 at St. Mary Church in Franklin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
